What's in our food?
This week on Good Morning America was all about our food system and is it safe. A study was taken by a Harvard Scientist and found that a chemical called BPD has been added to can goods to preserve the food inside. They did a study on mice and gave the same dose of BPD that is added to can food and it showed the mice getting sick and over a period of time got cancer. The FDA stated that they had no case on humans getting sick from the small dose of BPD chemical. There is a solution and that is to buy organic fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables. If you can not afford the fresh fruits and vegetables try to buy package or glass jar vegetables. This is a great reason to go to the Farmer's market the food is safe, local and organic.

Why You Need To Buy & Eat Organic
Lately on the news it's been reported that by eating Tomatoes more than 400 people have been infected with Salmonella. This is not the first time that foods that we eat from around the world have been contamiated. We have to understand that when we buy foods that are not organic we are taking a risk with our health. Most mass production of produce are not watch carefully to make sure that the produce are safe to eat. Instead we see chemicals on the ground where the fruits & vegetables grow, and we also have workers not washing there hands when coming from the rest rooms. All these bacterias are then pass on to our produce and this is why people get Salmonella. When you buy organic you are gaurenteed that the food is certified and safe for you to eat. This means that there are no chemicals in the ground or sprayed on the produce. I always eat organic and I never had any problems with my food. If buying organic is too expensive for you try buying organic foods when on sale. If you can't afford it just use some vinegar and lemon to clean off pesticide and germs off your fruits & vegetables. Remember buy organic to be healthy.

Green Fashion Education
We as people must educate ourselves about the clothes that we buy. We know that many fabrics are really bad for the environment. Cotton is one of the most heavily sprayed crops and Textiles dyes pollute our water. Also, many synthetic fabrics are made from petroleum a non reusable resource. ECO Friendly materials is one of the "Hottest Trend" in making clothing from. Fabrics from earth friendly natural sustainable materials are being turn into sheik fashion. We must remember that your skin is your biggest organ and we must protect it. When we buy clothes that is not ECO Friendly we take the risk of having these toxic chemicals go right into our skin. Today there are so many ECO designers that make clothing that are affordable for every budget like: Linda Loudermilk, Anna Cohen, Lela Rose, and Peter Som just to name a few. So go out and treat your skin to a ECO Luxe outfit. Your body and the environment will thank you for it.

Kids Gone Wild!
Do you have a kid who embaress you in front of guests in the home and out in public, Do you have a kid who screams for no reason or talk back to you, or do you have a kid that says "I Hate You". All of the above situations are children who are displaying inappropraite behaviors. As a Certified Family Teacher who have years experience working with kids, only show inappropraite behaviors when a kid feels like he/she is not getting enough attention. Sometimes this can mean that one child is being favored by the parents and the other child is feeling left out. In any case whether you have one child or more always show that you care by teaching to your kids whether the behavior is positive or negative. Here is a example:Whenever a kid misbehave for so long and then do good, immediately praise he or she for it. When this is done it builds up the their self esteem and the child will continue to do good to receive the attention from the parent. Here is another example: When a child does bad show empathy by saying "John I know you were upset but when I was talking to Betty you were pulling on my pants". You let John know that his behavior was inappropraite and give him the a description of the appropraite behavior on how to get mommy's attention next time. Try this simple assignment like the one above and watch the difference in your kid.

Home for the Holidays
Memorial weekend was a holiday were most Americans stayed at home. On CNN they stated that 80% of Americans stayed at home, and 1% traveled by plane. There was also less people driving on the roads, and less people traveling by bus and train. Due to the high prices of gas people are refusing to pay those prices at the pump. This is a great opportunity to turn your home into a wonderful vacation or become a tourist in your own town. So go all out and turn that pool area into a deserted island, or turn that backyard into a music camp ground where you invite your friends and family over put a tent up, make some smores and sing songs into the middle of the night. Get creative, have fun and make the best out of every moment.
